Blue Planet Yasasu Solutions Pvt. Ltd. has successfully set-up a decentralised organic waste processing unit which was inaugurated by Member of Parliament and celebrated former cricketer, Gautam Gambhir on the 14th of December.
The unit will help convert 5 tons of segregated food waste per day into green electricity and high-quality compost. With the vision of alleviating pollution and enabling formal employment in the waste sector, we celebrate this as an achievement of a dedicated team!
Located in Gita Nagar in East Delhi, the Yasasu invention will produce biogas that will be converted into electricity which will be fed into grid through net metering. The unit also helps avoid emissions that might have been degenerated if organic waste was dumped in open areas, heavily contribution got methane emissions.
The small scale containerised Anaerobic Digester, developed by Yasasu, is built to treat organic and food waste at source. It is an advanced biological process based on the proven Thermophilic Biomethanation process for processing segregated, organic Municipal Solid Waste (MSW).
The solution is designed to treat high solids using a process that delivers positive environmental impact. The uniqueness of this process is in its effective mixing and in the design of reactor, which reduces the size of the bio-degradable organic waste during the pre-treatment process.
By using an innovative low cost solid liquid handling system, the unit helps recycle water and reduces fresh water usage. Additionally, the system provides data about it’s performance and outputs and helps in running operations smoothly to ensure that production of gas and electricity remains consistent and reliable.
The solution is fit for the region, especially south and south east Asia, where organic waste can be looked at as an opportunity. Given that methane from landfills contribute significantly to the anthropomorphic emissions, solutions like this are a critical way to achieve sustainability and adaptation to the growing concern of climate change.
